Parkside Station Closure Sparks Community Effort for Reopening

Listen the Full Audio News StoryBy. Noah Jacobson

A once highly sought-after gathering spot in the Manhattan community, Parkside Station now sits closed. However, new efforts are underway to bring it back, as community members rally behind a fundraising campaign to reopen the local favorite.

A GoFundMe has been created to help revive Parkside Station, and early support shows strong public interest. So far, $20,000 has already been donated, signaling that many residents are eager to see the business return. For regular customers like Brandon, the closure came as a surprise and disappointment.

Brandon, a frequent visitor, described the impact the closure had on his routine. He explained that Parkside had become a consistent part of his life by serving as a place to meet with others and spend time with his family. Weekly coffee visits and regular meetings made the restaurant more than just a place to eat.

“I saw it on Facebook, and my heart sank a little bit,” Brandon said. “I always bring my kids here. In fact, I’ve had multiple meetings here for the past two or three years. We drink coffee every single week, so it was pretty disappointing.”

Before its closure, Parkside quickly established itself as a familiar and reliable gathering place within the community. Its unique atmosphere set it apart from other restaurants, offering a space that felt welcoming and personal. Supporters now believe those qualities are exactly what make it worth saving.

Brandon emphasized the urgency behind the fundraising effort, noting the strong response online. He explained that the number of people engaging with posts about Parkside’s closure made it clear that many were willing to contribute financially to bring it back.

“There’s no way we can have this thing shut down,” he said. “If this many people are commenting on this post, then I know there are going to be people willing to donate.”

The funds raised so far have already been put to use, helping cover ongoing expenses that continued even after the business closed. According to Brandon, those costs include payroll taxes, insurance, and property taxes which are all expenses that did not stop despite the shutdown.

Supporters say Parkside Station was more than just another restaurant. Its atmosphere played a key role in its identity, offering a cozy and authentic environment that kept customers coming back. That sense of familiarity is something many in the community feel is worth preserving.

Efforts to reopen the restaurant are not just about bringing back a business, but also about restoring its role in the community. Organizers behind the fundraiser believe a reopening would create job opportunities while reestablishing a space for people to gather and connect.

Johnny, another supporter of the effort, highlighted the value that Parkside brought to its customers. He noted that people are often willing to support businesses that provide meaningful experiences, rather than simply focusing on cost.

“People are willing to pay for that,” Johnny said. “People don’t just care about the cheapest place in town. They want something that makes their lives better, and I think that’s really something that Parkside accomplished.”

With a goal of $70,000 set for May 1st, the future of Parkside Station now depends on how the community responds in the coming weeks. As donations continue to come in, supporters remain hopeful that the restaurant can reopen its doors and once again serve as a central gathering place in Manhattan.
