Bike polo is a bike-based sport where players use a polo mallet to score on the other team. Justine Cerna, a long-time bike polo player, said Kansas Bike Polo Clubs is planning to bring the unique sport to Manhattan.

“You play typically three versus three people or four-on-four, then basically you're just trying to get the ball in the net,” Justine said. “One of the main rules is that you can’t dab, which means touching your foot to the ground.”

Three weeks ago, the Kansas Bike Polo Club secured a spot to play in town at Peak Form Sports and Wellness Center on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to sundown, and sometimes on Sundays, until the courts are finished being renovated for women's tennis. The club regularly posts its playing schedule on its Instagram.

“It’s pretty relaxed play, nothing very serious," Chaney Courtney, one of the club’s members, said. "Learn new skills and have fun.”

The club encourages anyone curious about the sport to come and try it out. All skill levels and ages are welcome, and the club provides bikes and the necessary equipment to play. They do, however, recommend bringing a helmet and kneepads, as supplies are limited.

“It’s a good way to stay active and spend time with friends,” Justine said. “It’s also good to challenge myself.”

The Kansas bike polo club has a competitive team called Yolk, which has succeeded in regional tournaments and earned a spot in this year’s North American Bike Polo Tournament.
