Kansas State bounces back in a big way with a win over the University of Florida Golden Knights. The Wildcats entered the afternoon contest with a 1-3 record. With the Cats losing in Dublin, Ireland, to Iowa State on the road, against Arizona, and at home to Army; it made this game a pivotal moment of the season.
UCF, on the other hand, walked into Manhattan with a 3-0 record, having won over Jacksonville State, North Carolina A&T, and the Bill Belichick-led North Carolina Tar Heels.
Shortly after an 11 am opening kick, KSU had a solid opening drive in the works. Flirting with the red zone, Linkon Cure caught a lateral in the backfield, but failed to complete the trick play. Kansas State turned the ball over to start the game, but the Kansas State defense was humming heading off its first bye week of the season.
Both teams' score totals were gridlocked at zero throughout the first quarter. But the Defensive slugfest was blown wide open with a Joe Jackson rushing touchdown late in the second quarter. The score was punched in along the left side of the K-State offensive line, and the scoring continued until halftime, with K-State scoring two touchdowns in the final 4-second quarter and UCF also punching in a touchdown. Those scores, along with a Rodriguez field goal early in the second quarter, had the Wildcats leading 17-7 at halftime.
After a long halftime break, the scoring continued for KSU. Avery Johnson found Garrett Oakley for a one-yard passing touchdown, and later, Dylan Edwards found the end zone on a picture-perfect 75-yard touchdown run. UCF also got itself back on the board, converting on a 53-yard field goal and a touchdown. The third quarter concluded with Kansas State holding a commanding 31-17 point lead.
The Knights continued to hang in the game with a field goal to begin the fourth quarter, but a Rodriguez field goal put the Cats back ahead by 14 points, and that would be the final deficit. Kansas State takes the win against UCF by a score of 34-20.
The now 2-3 Wildcats prepare to welcome TCU into Bill Snyder Family Stadium on October 11th, live coverage will be brought forth on Wildcat 91.9.
