Wildcats Record Their First Home Victory Over Baylor Since 2016

On Wednesday, November 12, Kansas State volleyball completed back-to-back top 25 wins as

they took down the #21 Baylor Bears 3-1. The Wildcats get a boost in NCAA tournament hopes

as they currently are sitting at #31 in the RPI rankings and 15-7 overall, and 8-6 in the Big 12.

How it Happened

The Wildcats continued their hot start as they did in the sweep versus Colorado in the last

match, with a dominant first set where they were able to establish their defense early with some

key blocks. K-State ended up taking the first set 25-17.

In the second set K-State seemed like they were in control as they were leading 16-13 at one

point, but a few serving errors by the Cats and a few kills by Ksenia Rakhmanchik of Baylor,

propelled the Bears to win the second set 25-23. In the third set the Wildcats looked like they

were gonna give it away to Baylor to take the lead in sets as they were down 25-20, but 4

straights kills by the likes of Shaylee Myers and Reagan Fox and a match point ace by Symone

Syms lifted the Cats to a third set win, 25-23.

In the fourth set the Wildcats took charge early on with a 4-0 lead and never trailed the rest of the way, ending the set 25-20 and a 3-1 set victory for the Cats.

Who Was the Star?

As a whole, the defense was on fire the whole night. The Wildcats' defense limited Baylor to a

.188 team hitting percentage, fueled by a season-high 13 blocks and 67 digs. Middle blocker

Jordyn Williams led at the net with seven blocks, followed by Brenna Schmidt with five.

On the offensive side of the ball, it was by far senior outside hitter Shaylee Myers. Reigning Big

12 Offensive Player of the Week, Myers knocked down a team-high 21 kills to go along with 13

digs to complete her fifth double-double of the year. With her 21 kills, she moved into a tie for

third in school history with her 10th 20-kill match of the year. Myers is now 72 kills shy of

reaching her 1,000th career kill.

What's Next?

Only four games remain in the regular season for K-State as they sit 15-7 overall and 8-6 in the

conference. Up next is the 2nd edition of the Sunflower Showdown as the Wildcats take on #13

Kansas. The Jayhawks last loss came to K-State where they won 3-2 in sets on October 24th in

Lawrence. The Cats will look to capture 3 straight wins against top 25 opponents this Saturday,

November 15 at 1 pm.
