Jeff Mittie’s Wildcats posted 89 points to defeat the Lamar Cardinals, remaining unbeaten this season. Entering the contest, Kansas State had not allowed more than 49 points in a game.
First Quarter (20-20):
The opening quarter in Bramlage Coliseum was tightly contested. Both teams traded turnovers, and defensive intensity led to a 20-20 tie. Wildcats guards Brandie Harrod and Izela Arenas keyed the offense, but Lamar’s leading scorer, Shaila Forman, penetrated the K-State defense for key baskets.
Second Quarter (48-32):
Kansas State took control with an explosive 28-point quarter, sparked by two three-pointers from Taryn Sides. The Wildcats attacked the paint effectively and defensively forced Lamar into low-percentage shots. K-State pushed ahead to a 16-point halftime lead.
Third Quarter (66-46):
Taryn Sides tallied 5 points in the third as Kansas State shot an efficient 50% from the field. Despite Lamar’s seven turnovers, the Wildcats capitalized more on second-chance opportunities, outscoring the Cardinals 24-10 in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter (89-61):
Kansas State maintained its rhythm, pounding the paint and exploiting offensive mismatches. Crisp passing from Sides and Gina Garcia set up high-quality opportunities, closing out the 89-61 victory.
Looking Ahead:
The Wildcats now prepare to face South Dakota on November 13 and Texas A&M on November 16. Coach Mittie praised his team’s performance postgame, emphasizing strong ball movement and defensive effort.
