As a lot of us already know and can agree, music is a way to express ourselves and often use it to say things that might be hard for us to talk about. Jessica Baio’s debut album, UNSAID, does exactly that. As she pours her heart and soul into each song, she makes it relatable for so many people, in terms of relationships, mental health, and everything in between.
The first song on the album, “Bite the Bullet,” is an emotional song about infidelity in a relationship and how it makes someone feel betrayed and even heartbroken. The character shows resilience even though it’s hard for them to process the emotions that come with the hurtful actions of their significant other.
One of my favorite songs is “What Are You Afraid Of?” The reason why this one stands out to me so much is because it’s emotional. It’s about love, being vulnerable, and intimacy on a deeper level. When she sings, “Who couldn’t love me at all, what are you afraid of,” it’s basically saying that one of the characters is scared and hesitant to get into a relationship and she is struggling with dealing with the mixed emotions that the other person is giving or showing her. It’s a very heartfelt song and you can hear the passion for this song in her voice.
Another song that I like is “Every Version.” It’s an upbeat song about love and how even if her partner wakes up a different person, she will love “every version” of him. To me, it’s a powerful song about relationships and mental health. This is another great song with a powerful message because of how she shares her story and the things that she’s been through without putting up some kind of front up.
Other songs that I really enjoy listening to include break up with me, sharp edges, unoptimistic, and i don’t even think about you. I like these songs too just because I think they flow really well and I like the melody. Out of these songs, I would say that "sharp edges” stands out to me the most because it’s a sad song about someone being in an abusive or toxic relationship. One of the characters wants to leave but they can’t because they don’t want to feel like they’re stuck with nowhere to go. I’m sure that a lot of people relate to this one.
I want to conclude things by saying that overall, this is a really good album and I recommend it to anybody. Like so many other albums out there, this one has a lot to offer too. Her track called love’s not pain, is a personal song based on her personal experiences and has led her to be vulnerable. It encourages her to open up to people and hopes that other people are willing to do the same thing. This song is another one of my favorites for this reason.
