After a few months away, Pizza Shuttle has officially returned to Manhattan, and for many Wildcats and longtime residents, it feels like a part of the community is back where it belongs. The shop’s comeback brings the same recipes, the same late-night slices, and the same sense of comfort that have made it a go-to spot since 1988.
Owner Ryan Wright says the decision to bring Pizza Shuttle back was rooted in the connection the store has built with the community over nearly four decades.
“Pizza Shuttle has been here since 1988,” Wright said. “It’s been a staple in the Manhattan community since ’88. The students and the community deserve to have Pizza Shuttle. We’re a high-quality product with great value, and we’re excited to be back in the neighborhood.”
Bringing the store back to life wasn’t about changing what had already worked. According to Wright, the foundation that made Pizza Shuttle successful had stayed intact.
“When we came back to the one in Manhattan, the infrastructure was already in place,” he explained. “All we had to do was bring it back to life a little bit. Same recipes, same everything that’s been here since ’88. I’d argue you can feed your family cheaper at Shuttle than going to the grocery store. Our goal is to provide a great experience on every visit at a great value, time and time again.”
Over the years, Pizza Shuttle has grown from a popular local stop into something with its own cultural footprint. Wright takes pride in the fan traditions and social media moments that have built up around the brand.
“One of my proudest things is that we have something in the Urban Dictionary,” he said. “It’s the ‘Shuttle Drop,’ and it’s unique to Shuttle. It’s fun. I know a lot is happening on social media with some of our competitors, but we’re the original, and we’re proud of it.”
Wright hopes the return of Pizza Shuttle brings back more than just a familiar flavor. For him, it’s about restoring a place that students and locals have relied on for years — a spot to grab a meal, hang out with friends, or stop by late at night on the way home.
Pizza Shuttle’s doors are open once again, and for those who grew up with it or discovered it during their time in Manhattan, the reopening marks the return of a place that has long felt like part of the town’s everyday rhythm.
