Kansas State Women’s Basketball (10-1) returns at No. 13 in the AP Poll. After coming off a four-win week, the Wildcats saw little movement. The USA Today Coaches Poll also did not move the Wildcats off their spot at No. 12. However, the Wildcats took a massive leap in the NET rankings, coming in at third in the country.
The four-game week treated the K-State well with massive wins, record-breaking games, and the first true road test of the year. The Wildcats are one of the best teams in the country in the stat columns, ranked in the top 10 of 11 different statistical categories. The Cats are second in the nation in assists per game, shooting percentage, scoring margin, and assists to turnover margin. The Wildcats come in the top 10 in other major categories like opponent field goal percentage, rebound margin, and scoring offense and defense.
A red-hot, deadeye shooter in Taryn Sides broke out last week, shooting 68.6 percent from deep, knocking down 24 threes in 5 games. Sides leads the team in the threeball category and helps the Wildcats rank in the top 15 in 3-point shooting percentage.
Bracketology Breakdown
The Wildcats move up a spot in ESPN’s bracketology to now a three seed, in the women’s tournament, the top four seeds host the first two rounds of the tournament. On the three-seed line, K-State would again host the tournament here in Manhattan and be on the opposite side of the bracket to their region’s one-seed.
Big 12 Rankings Rundown
Again some shake-up found its way into the rankings in the Big 12. Last week top-ranked TCU found struggles against South Carolina and it bumped the Horn Frogs down. Here are the rankings in order (AP Poll, USA Today Coaches Poll, NET rankings): TCU (11, 15, 10), K-State (12, 12, 3), West Virginia (15, 13, 13 ), Iowa State(18, 17), and Baylor and Utah coming in the top 25 in the NET.
Future Focus
A Look Ahead at the K-State Schedule
After a full week’s worth of play last week, a seemingly empty week probably comes at a perfect time. With ongoing finals, the Wildcats find their schedule empty until Saturday when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. for the Bill Synder Classic, where the Wildcats will take on their second to last non-con opponent, Middle Tennessee State, at 5 p.m. The next home game at Bramlage Coliseum is not until December 22 at 1 p.m. when K-State starts their Big 12 play against Cincinnati.
