If you are looking for something fun (and cheesy) to do this weekend, the Manhattan Arts Center has you covered.
Addie Schneider, education director, and Gracie Stutterheim, who handles marketing, joined The Evening Drive with hosts Anna and Sophie on Wildcat 91.9 to talk about the Mac and Cheese Arts and Music Festival and everything it has to offer.
The festival is happening Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Manhattan Arts Center on Poyntz Avenue. Even better, it is completely free to attend.
Now in its third year, the event has grown quite a bit and will even shut down part of Poyntz this time around. The goal is simple: give the community a chance to experience the arts in a fun, low-cost (or no-cost) way.
There will be a little bit of everything going on throughout the day. Visitors can check out live music from local bands, watch artist demonstrations like pottery and even a giant steamroller printmaking setup, and shop from local artists.
There are also plenty of hands-on activities, including mask-making and other crafts that are free for all ages. Plus, there will be a costume garage sale where everything is just $3.
And of course, you cannot forget the mac and cheese. For $5, you can try different mac and cheese creations from competing food trucks and vote for your favorite before 2:30 p.m. The winner takes home a traveling trophy.
Organizers say the event can be whatever you want it to be. You can stop by for a bit or spend the whole day there. Either way, they recommend coming prepared with sunscreen and comfy shoes because there is a lot to see and do.
The festival also highlights local talent, from musicians to artists, and gives people a chance to see what the Manhattan Arts Center is all about. Summer class enrollment will also open during the event for anyone interested in getting more involved.
To stay updated or learn more, you can follow the Manhattan Arts Center on social media or check out their website.
Whether you are coming for the music, the art or just the mac and cheese, it is a fun way to spend your Saturday in Manhattan.
