Linton to depart K-State, assume presidency at Virginia Tech

Richard Linton, president of K-State, is anticipated to become the next president of Virginia Tech, the Manhattan Mercury reported Tuesday.
Neither university has made an announcement; however, according to the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors website, at noon Central Standard Time on Wednesday, Oct. 14, the board will hold a meeting “to consider a resolution to appoint the 17th president of Virginia Tech.”
Additionally, according to the Mercury and the Kansas Board of Regents website, the board, which makes hiring and firing decisions for university presidents, has a meeting “relating to non-elected personnel” scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Linton, a Virginia Tech graduate, has served as president of K-State since 2022, when he became the university’s 15th president. During his time at K-State, Linton has championed Next-Gen K-State, an initiative the university launched in Sept. 2023 to “transform our institution in ways bold enough [to] make an impact and enduring enough to last.”
