An early September Senior Night for Kansas State soccer was a beautiful night as the team celebrated Paige Dickson, Khaliana Garrett and Andra Mohler. The Wildcats took on Colorado College, out of Colorado Springs and the Mountain West conference.
From the start, it was a battle in the defensive zones with both squads being aggressive toward the ball. This backfired for the Tigers when McKinnan Braswell drew a foul for the Wildcats in the 19th minute of the first period. With a penalty shot opportunity, Allison Marshall scored her third goal of the season against Regan Wallace, the goalkeeper for Colorado College.
The Wildcats quickly returned to the same opportunity in the 26th minute when a shot attempt by Chloe Dillbeck resulted in another penalty kick. Senior Andra Mohler netted the kick for her second goal this season. According to K-State Sports, this is the first time in program history that K-State has had two penalty kicks in the same match.
In the 55th minute, the elusive Hannah Palmer used her speed to get a gorgeous assist across the net to a waiting Rilyn Rintoul, who had a perfect shot to the roof of the goal. This was Rintoul's second goal of the season and Palmer's fourth assist.
The Tigers did not go down quietly, as a corner kick beautifully placed for a header by Colorado College's Jessica Anderson found its way to the back of the net, making the score 3-1 Wildcats.
This was not enough for a comeback, as K-State's 22 shots and 12 on goal, combined with quick defense from Emerson DeLuca, Reece Walrod and Lily Hendrickson, were the defining factors for the Wildcats.
This was the first-ever meeting between these two programs, which brings Kansas State's record to 5-1-1 and drops Colorado's to 3-3-2.
Up next for the Wildcats is Big 12 play at Colorado, followed by two home matches against TCU and Baylor.
