Greek Life Leadership at K-State: Presidents Share Vision for Growing Community

Full Interview with K-State IFC & PHC PresidentsBy. Delaney Murphy

Kansas State University Interfraternity and Panhellenic Council presidents, Cooper Hillman and Anne Borberg, recently joined Delaney Murphy on Wildcat 91.9 to reflect on their leadership experiences and the sense of community that defines Greek life on campus.

Unity and Growth in Greek Life

Both leaders highlighted the collaborative culture between K-State fraternities and sororities. Hillman praised the community’s camaraderie, noting that “having two fraternities host a philanthropy event together doesn’t happen in most places.” This cooperation shone during Greek Week, when more than a thousand students participated in a day of service and collected over 5,000 cans for Cats’ Cupboard.

Student Success and Support

Borberg, a member of Sigma Kappa, said her time as Panhellenic president taught her “to put more focus on taking care of myself first because I can’t be the leader I want to be if I’m not being myself.” Hillman echoed the importance of peer support, crediting his fraternity brothers for helping him “unwind after long days” while balancing responsibility and academics.

Recruitment and Wellness

This year marked a record 20 percent jump in sorority recruitment, with fraternity new-member numbers also up, bringing K-State’s Greek community above 1,000 new members. Both councils are emphasizing student well-being and accountability, with initiatives like wellness chair positions in every fraternity and joint mental health programming in partnership with Lafene Counseling Center.

Building the Future

As their terms near an end, both presidents encouraged students to get involved. "There’s truly a place for everyone in K-State Greek life," Hillman said. Borberg added that new outreach events, such as Panhellenic Pride Week and open house tours, continue to "bridge the gap between council leadership and individual chapters," building a stronger, more inclusive Greek community.
