On Episode 15 of The Sands of Time we dive into the world of Biochemistry and Biotechnology. By breaking down the ways in which biochemists utilize computer programs, lasers and protein structures. I was able to learn from Carson Gido a Senior majoring in Biochemistry & researching structural biology at K-State, all the while just starting to work at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. Carson helped break apart the vast landscape of the biochemistry world by discussing the creation of vaccines, the use of Alpha fold & its limits, and what the future may hold for open source computer programming alongside the progression of ridding our programming languages of algorithmic bias.
The Blackbird Fields, a midwestern trio playing stripped down psych-blues & old-school country inspired indie/garage rock and the Headlight Rivals a fuzzy, hook-driven power-pop rock and roll band have been helping shape the local music scene in Manhattan, Kansas. But recently with the reviving of the old AG Press building on Yuma street both members of the bands, Jeff (Blackbird fields singer/guitarist) and Eric (Headlight Rivals guitarist) came onto the Daily Wave to break down how the building is going to be repurposed as a Rock & Roll event space called "The Press" and assist in growing the music scene in Manhattan, KS. The Press will be a revitalization of the historic, landmark building sitting on 4 acres in central Manhattan by bringing in bands from around the country and within Manhattan. The goal is to provide a concert venue with a capacity of over 500 people, that would make it one of the largest rock and roll venues in town. That's why Jeff and Eric were so excited to share what they are looking forward to with the new venue, how the local music scene in Manhattan has changed over the years and words of wisdom for local musicians striving to make it on the map. If you enjoy wacky, weird and voluptuous interviews then listen to the full chat they had with Dawson Wagner on the Daily Wave below! Listen here for the full interview |
