KSDB Sports Staff
Rules and Regulations – Fall 2006
Kyle Finley – Sports Director
1) Attend all meetings – general staff and sports staff
- General staff meetings – Thursday at 4:30 in Kedzie 004 (basement)
- Sports staff meetings – Thursday before general staff meetings (usually at 4)
2) Complete all assignments
- sports updates
- packages
- board operation
- on-air
- articles/editorials
- interviews
3) Dress professionally for athletic events
Men: dress slacks and shoes with button-up shirt, preferably accompanied by a tie
Women: semi-formal business attire
4) Follow all FCC and KSDB on-air procedures
- speech, logs, carts, content
5) Prepare appropriately for on-air assignments
- go to athletic events prepared, as much as is possible based upon available information on KSU opponent, to cover the event
6) Alcohol
- drinking alcohol directly before a sports staff/general staff meeting is strictly prohibited
- if of age, alcoholic beverages may be consumed by staff members in a responsible manner on road trips if a designated driver is present
- on the night, morning and if there be one, the afternoon before athletic events, consumption of alcoholic beverages is to be very limited; time should be spent preparing for the coverage of the event – Be REPSONSIBLE, PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS who represent themselves, KSDB and the University appropriately. You are a part of something bigger than yourself.
7) Turn in all airchecks on time in appropriate fashion to the Sports Director.
- CD with name on it in paper or plastic case along with a brief summary on a piece of paper that covers improvement in speech, breathing technique, content, etc. since the last aircheck and deficiencies that are still within the broadcast
8) Complete the required two (2) promotions for the semester.
Penalties
Normal course of action for penalties will be a verbal warning for the first offense. A second offense of any type will be followed by a written warning and/or a suspension from your duties on the staff. A third offense will lead to being fired from the staff. Immediate suspension or firing may occur based upon the severity of the infraction.
