Heres a list of some of the new stuff we are adding to the station for listening pleasure!
“What Doesn’t Kill You” – Jake Bugg Shangri La
After the success of singles “Two Fingers” and “Lightning Bolt”, Jake Bugg released his second album, Shangri La via Mercury records in late November. Bugg’s music is a driving alternative folk (think Bob Dylan meets Arctic Monkeys).
“Normal Person” – Arcade Fire Reflektor
Recorded in secret under the moniker ‘The Reflektors’, Canadian based rock group Arcade Fire will released their 4th full lp on October 29th. The ad advance single, which is the title track, was released on September 9th at 9:00pm in select locations around the country. The James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) produced album features backup vocals by David Bowie.
“I Luv the Valley, OH!!!” – Shearwater Fellow Travelers
Texas based Shearwater is a psych folk band featuring ex Okkervil River guitarist Jonathan Meiburg (Shearwater also formerly featured Okkervil River frontmant Will Sheff). The prolific group has released 4 albums in the last 3 years. Fellow Travelers is a covers compilation, featuring tracks that vary significantly from the original versions. Artists covered include: Xiu Xiu, St. Vincent and Coldplay.
“Buffy” – Dream Shake Dream Shake
Virginia based band Dream Shake released their debut l.p. on October 8th. The guitar pop duo’s name is a Hakeem Olajuwon reference.
“Mean Streets” – Tennis Small Sound
Husband/wife Denver indie pop duo Tennis released an e.p. entitled Small Sound in November. It follows their previous l.p.s Cape Dory and Young and Old.
“Lights” – Phantogram The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Soundtrack
Poppy trip hop duo Phantogram released a self-titled e.p. on September 30th. Their second full album, Voices, will be released later this year. Unreleased single “Lights” is featured on the soundtrack for the movie “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
“Chamakay” – Blood Orange Cupid Deluxe
Primarily known as a songwriter/producer (he’s worked with Florence + The Machine, The Chemical Brothers, Sky Ferreira and Solange Knowles), Devonte Hynes also releases his own material under the moniker Blood Orange. The new album, Cupid Deluxe, is wildly eclectic, featuring tracks that could be classified as alternative rock, electronic, and R&B.
“Wait Let’s Go” – Thee Oh Sees Singles Collection: Volume 3
Prolific San Francisco garage punk group Thee Oh Sees released a new singles collection on December 3rd. The John Dwyer led group, have featured a variety of different sounds over the years. This collection features their definitive garage punk sound, although some tracks feature long jams while others are short and sweet freak folk tracks. The collection also features a cover from Sonic Youth’s debut album, “Burning Spear.”
“Shine Your Light” – Gap Dream Shine Your Light
Gap Dream front man Gabriel Fulvimar lives in the record store that he owns (it also serves as the office for his label, Burger Records). Gap Dream’s debut album, Shine Your Light, was released in late November via Burger Records. Fulvimar’s roots as a record store owner are evident throughout the album. Gap Dream channels The Beach Boys, Brian Eno, David Byrne, Lou Reed, and many other underground favorites.
Miami Horror is Benjamin Platt. He tours with a four piece Australian indie electronic band. They released a single called “Colours in the Sky” on November 19th. It will be found on the long awaited sophomore l.p., which will be released in 2014.
“Be a Toy” – Title Fight Spring Songs – E.P.
Pennsylvania based punk group Title Fight released the ironically titled Spring Songs e.p. on November 30th.
“400 Lux” – Lorde Pure Heroine
New Zealand R&B/Pop singer Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O’Connor, known as Lorde, released her highly anticipated debut album, Pure Heroine, on September 27th. It rides on the success of her self-released e.p. The Love Club.
“Sea of White” – Tough Age Sea of White
Vancouver based psych punk group Tough Age released the single “Sea of White” in November.
“Holding on for Life” – Broken Bells After the Disco
Broken Bells is James Mercer (of The Shins) and DJ Danger Mouse (of Gnarls Barkley, also released The Grey Album, and has done production work for Portugal. The Man, The Black Keys, Gorillaz, Beck, etc.). Their self titled debut album was released in 2010. New single “Holding on for Life” was released on November 5th. Their second l.p., After the Disco, is scheduled for release in January of 2014.
“Lean” – The National The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Cincinnati based alt rock group The National released Trouble Will Find Me in early 2013. Unreleased single “Lean” is featured on the soundtrack for the movie “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
Recently Added Local Music
Topeka based rock n’ roll group Chris Aytes and the Good Ambition will release their full album debut in 2014. The to be named album will feature the singles “The Movement” and “Waiting for You.”
